Malware is increasingly arriving in the form of phony pop up advertising on the web or suspicious email attachments designed to steal personal information for financial purposes, reports Derek Manky, security research engineer at Fortinet, which recently released its most current list of the top 10 malware threats.
“Hacking legitimate site content to host malicious code has become very common. In November, many trusted Internet sites were unwittingly ‘hosting’ flash advertisements injected with encrypted redirects and forcing users to visit other sites once the ad was displayed. More determined efforts to conceal malware using trusted sources are likely to be made as we enter into the busy holiday season of December.”
