Symantec Corp.’s November spam report indicated that fraud and scam spam accounted for 18 per cent of all spam in October, an increase from the 13 per cent that was noted in September.
“It points to the fact that spammers are actively trying to engage in dialogue with end users to defraud people and taking tactics that could be more damaging financially to people,” said Doug Bowers, senior director of anti-abuse engineering with Symantec. “Anytime you see these percentages move around, it indicates to us that people are having success with it, especially on the scam side.”
